How does business SMS work in India?
Commercial SMS in India is regulated by TRAI. Businesses must register as a Principal Entity on a telecom operator's DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) platform, and every sender ID (header) and message template must be approved before use. Promotional messages are delivered only within permitted hours and respect customers' Do Not Disturb preferences, while transactional and service messages such as OTPs and alerts use their own categories and templates.

Do I need DLT registration to send SMS?
Yes. Businesses sending commercial SMS in India must register as a Principal Entity on a telecom operator's DLT platform and get their sender IDs and message templates approved. We guide you through the process and set up your approved IDs in the application.
What is the difference between promotional and transactional SMS?
Promotional SMS carry offers and marketing content, are delivered only within permitted hours and are not delivered to numbers that have opted out through DND preferences. Transactional and service messages — such as OTPs, order updates and account alerts — use separate categories and templates.
Can I send SMS in Hindi?
Yes. Unicode SMS supports Hindi and other Indian languages. Unicode messages fit fewer characters per SMS, so the application shows character and credit counts before sending.
Why do some messages fail?
Common reasons are content that doesn't match the approved DLT template, unregistered headers, invalid or switched-off numbers and DND preferences for promotional messages. Delivery reports show the status of each number.
Can I include links in SMS?
Yes, but links and call-back numbers must be whitelisted in your DLT templates under TRAI's rules. We help you register the domains you plan to use.
Can our software send SMS automatically?
